Electrodes0

Electrodes serve an important function in propane based furnace systems, specifically ones used in RV's and campers.  They serve a dual purpose as both the spark igniter and the flame sensor in most modern electronic ignition setups, using a single rod or assembly (often a 1- or 2-prong design) positioned near the burner ports. The control board sends high-voltage pulses through the electrode to create a visible spark across a small gap (typically 1/8" to 1/4") to the grounded burner or a separate ground probe, igniting the propane-air mixture when the thermostat calls for heat and the gas valve opens—ensuring reliable startup in the compact, mobile environment.

Once the flame is established, the electrode acts as a flame sensor via flame rectification: the flame's ionization creates a tiny DC microamp current (rectified by the flame) that flows from the electrode (now acting as a probe) through the flame to the grounded burner and back to the control board, proving flame presence and allowing the board to keep the gas valve open for continuous heating; if the signal is lost (due to dirty/coroded electrode, poor gap, weak flame, or wiring issues), the board shuts off the gas to prevent unsafe gas release, often leading to lockout after retry attempts and requiring cleaning, gapping, or replacement to restore reliable operation.

Gas Valves0

The gas valve in an RV heating system (propane forced-air furnace, such as Suburban SF-series, Atwood/Dometic Hydro Flame, or similar models) is an electrically operated solenoid valve (typically 12V DC) that acts as the primary safety and control device for propane flow, opening only when commanded by the ignition control board after all safety conditions are met—like proper blower airflow (via sail switch), no over-temperature limits, and sufficient battery voltage—to allow propane to reach the burner assembly for ignition.

It regulates the precise amount of propane delivered to the burner for efficient combustion, remains open during normal heating operation once flame is proven (via flame rectification through the electrode), and immediately closes upon loss of flame signal, thermostat satisfaction, or any safety fault to prevent gas leaks, explosions, or carbon monoxide buildup—making it a critical redundant safety component in the compact, mobile RV environment where reliable, automatic operation on battery power is essential. Common failures (e.g., stuck solenoids, coil issues, or leaks) often cause no-heat symptoms, clicking without gas flow, or intermittent lockouts, and replacements are straightforward plug-and-play parts for these systems.

Ignition Modules & Controllers0

Ignition modules and controllers are the electronic "brain" that orchestrates the safe startup and operation of your RV's propane fired heating system.  If you're unable to start your furnance or heater, have intermittent ignition or lockout issues, you could have a control module that needs replacing.

Switches0

Properly operating water heaters and RV furnances require various switches.  Vacuum switches verify airflow prior to ignition and prevent overheating.  Limit switches, specifically high limit switches, serve as a safety mechanism to prevent overheating conditions.  They are closed by default and open as the temperature rises above the designated safety cutoff temperature.

Need help finding the correct blower or fan kit for your fireplace? Let our experts help you track down the correct replacement blower, fan kit or part for your application. We typically only need the fireplace or stove's make and model to determine exactly what you need. This information can usually be found on gas fireplaces by removing the lower access panel and finding your fireplace's name tag or identificaton card. Wood inserts will often times have the same identificaton card, while freestanding stoves and others might have this information printed on a rear panel or door.

Once you've located your fireplace's brand and model information, simply use the Find Your Blower tool above, or the Help Find My Blower at the top of the page.
