USSC Wood/Coal Furnace Cast Iron Shaker Grate. The shaker grate is an important part of your furnace. Air passes through the bottom of the grate to the base of the fire. Rotating the handle position will agitate the coals and allow ash to drop into the lower pan. It is important to inspect the grates periodically. If you notice that the grates are warping or starting to burn out they should be replaced!
Note: This shaker grate will work as a replacement for the front or back. Some Models Require Two Grates, Check With Your Owner's Manual. *Sold Individually*
Replacement For Part Number:
Technical Specifications:
- Construction- Heavy Duty Cast Iron
- Length- 14 3/4"
- Width- 5 1/4"
- Thickness-Padel- 1/2"
Instructions:
1.) Open the main load door.
2.) Remove the smoke curtain/shield. This will require you to loosen the two bolts above the main load door. (Doing this will give you easier access to the interior of the furnace).
3.) Remove the front and back liner (This will likely require you to remove some of the interior firebricks. Pay attention to the position of the firebrick).
4.) Next, open the ash pan door.
5.) Pull the shaker frame and shaker grate forward and out of the unit (You may have more than one frame and grate).
6.) Place the shaker frame on a flat surface and remove the shaker grate from the frame by sliding it out of the groves (If the grate or frame is warped it may be helpful to gently tap the grate with a hammer to dislodge it from the frame).
7.) Now grab your new shaker grate or frame and place the pieces together (Fit them together the same way the original pieces were previously installed).
8.) Slide the grate or grates back into position (It is important to make sure the grates are positioned correctly. Make sure that the long, narrow end of the grate is facing you and that the first grate is pushed all the way to the back of the unit. The grate will not work properly if it is installed backward). If you have two grates they should meet and connect in the middle.
9.) Before closing your ash pan door attach your shaker handle and make sure that the grates are able to move freely. Shut the ash pan door.
10.) Reinstall any previously removed liners and firebrick.
11.) Reattach the smoke curtain/shield if previously removed and tighten the bolts.
